If your anything like us, when we need more cash our heads start to come up with all kinds of quick money making ideas. Sometimes though we never actually put these ideas into action.
Last November my husband and I started to have a bit of a wobble because we’d not bought any Christmas presents whatsoever and our money just seemed to be going on bills all the time, so it was time for action…
Where to start?
We decided we had to make some money quick as Christmas was fast approaching so we went to the place where we store all our ‘old stuff’ and ‘things we might use one day’… the attic. Here we would find an plenty of old toys, books, old games consoles and more to sell!
We started by selling the items in our attic first. Next we moved on from room to room as you never know what junk is stored in the back of a cupboard… plenty I tell you!
Despite the attic de-cluttering taking us a couple of hours, it felt refreshing and good for the soul!
Where to sell the items?
We’ve used various sites to sell things in the past such as Ebay for example. I find by the time Ebay has taken their cut, then PayPal their percentage, a fair chunk of profit had vanished.
Our two favourite places to sell at the moment are on Sphock and Gumtree. Both these sites need you to register, but only brief details and they do not charge you a penny. They make their money by offering you a premium listing. For example, if you want a more prominent advert which will shown first to visitors, a small fee is charged.
As we were trying to make money not give it away, we opted for the free listings which I have to say worked wonders.
When selling an item you need good, clear photographs of it. Next you have to write a detailed description of your item and be completely honest. Make sure you put any scratches or marks in the description and photos.
On Gumtree you can also find items that are free. Sometimes people don’t want the hassle of selling or they need to get rid of an item fast such as a dining room table for example.
Of course, in the warmer months you can always opt to do a car boot sale if you have any nearby. Those luckily enough to have indoor ones all year round that’s perfect! You can sell your unwanted items whenever you are ready.
